Bay Area-based bakery Marvel Cake, known for its custom gourmet desserts, appears to be opening a second shop. According to a recent filing with the City of Palo Alto, the pâtisserie is taking over a space at 250 University Avenue, Suite 107

The application to add cabinets and plumbing to the existing University South retail space is currently under review. Once approved, Marvel Cake Palo Alto will neighbor establishments such as BIRD DOG, the Cajun restaurant Nola, Salt & Straw ice cream shop, and health food restaurant Sweetgreen.

For readers who haven’t tried one of Marvel Cake’s delicacies — like a red velvet cupcake, one of its tarts, or an apple turnover, to name a few — the bakery is known for prioritizing freshness. Owner Maryam Menbari shares on its website, “everything served at Marvel Cake is made fresh daily on the premises using the finest ingredients,” listing Belgian chocolate, and locally sourced butter, cream, and seasonal produce as some examples.

While the menu offers everything from cupcakes and tiramisu to galettes and almond croissants, the bakery’s website describes it as specializing in custom-designed cakes — ranging from “traditional” wedding cakes to one-of-a-kind creations for birthday parties, corporate events, promotions, and advertising and fashion editorials.

An opening date has not yet been announced, but Palo Alto residents can follow the bakery on Instagram for additional updates. In the meantime, find Marvel Cake at 1614 W Campbell Avenue.
