Glassell Park residents have a new neighborhood bar: The Grant has opened in a restored historic building at 3515 Eagle Rock Boulevard, just southwest of Avenue 36. Behind the cocktail, beer and wine purveyor are Michael Lippman and Josh Weinstein, the co-owners of Echo Park’s Bar Bandini.
“I’m proud to open a small business in Glassell Park, where my family and I are stakeholders in the community,” Lippman said in a statement. “We’re grateful to have made it through this incredibly challenging time, and we feel a heightened responsibility and excitement to contribute to our growing neighborhood.”
The Grant is serving up classic cocktails along with its own collection of creations, like “The Secret Weapon,” a cross between a margarita and a mezcalita featuring mezcal, lime, agave, angostura, orange bitters, and Tajin. Another libation is “The Space Walrus” — a blend of vodka, lime, simple syrup and angostura — all proceeds from which will be donated to a special fund for rehoming large dogs at Road Dogs and Rescue. A couple of The Grant’s soon-to-be neighbors in its building also feature on the menu: among its bar bites is focaccia from Bub and Grandma’s, which is opening a sandwich shop in the building, while beer from forthcoming tenant Solarc Brewery is included on the beer list.
The Grant is open daily from daily 4 p.m. until midnight, or 2 a.m. on weekends, with a daily happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
