Denton is about to get a fresh helping of delicious Japanese fare, served with a healthy dose of whimsy. Kura Sushi, a growing chain that’s been charming an increasing number of diners, has filed paperwork for a new DFW location, with work set to start before the year is out.

The distinctive restaurant will be bringing its unique atmosphere and unusual delivery methods (which include conveyor belts and robots) to 3400 North Interstate 35, Suite 150 as part of the Rayzor Ranch Town Center. The forms submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation show that Kura will have a designated 3,500 square feet renovated storefront. The work required is relatively extensive; the paperwork describes it as: “Tenant restaurant fit out of newly constructed 3500 square foot lease space including: Partitions, (2) restrooms, kitchen and equipment, MEP infrastructure, equipment and fixtures, furniture, and finishes.”

Denton residents will soon be able to see and hear the sounds of the space transforming into its future incarnation; work is set to begin on Kura’s new home on December 1 of this year. The project is estimated to wrap by April 30 of 2026, a positive indicator for a late spring or early summer opening.

Kura Sushi is the second largest sushi chain in Japan and has been steadily taking the United States by storm through its fun and engaging approach to customer service. Food is delivered via conveyor belts and a robot. Customers can look forward to potentially winning prizes as plates are returned and the restaurant often employs charming and whimsical design touches.

Kura does not choose between atmosphere and quality cuisine, however. The restaurant uses high quality, authentic Japanese ingredients, and the website explains: “We pay particular attention to ingredients, taste, and preparation for all of our dishes. Our philosophy of ‘muten’ or ‘nothing added’ is an ongoing promise that our food is prepared using fresh, high quality ingredients free of artificial sweeteners, seasonings, preservatives and colorings.”
