The owners of the Covington-based Elizabeth’z Bakery are preparing to open a café in Mid-City at 4201 Canal St. According to a permit filing with the City of New Orleans, Barrio Bites Mid-City will offer fresh-baked breads, desserts, and pastries. The cafe will also have breakfast dishes and lunch options. Drink options include coffee, juices, and soft drinks. Snowballs will be available during the warm weather

Co-owner Laura Bueso recently told What Now New Orleans that she had been partnering with her mother, who owned the Kupcake Factory. That bakery had five locations over the course of 12 years, including in Kenner, the French Quarter, Metairie, and on Claiborne Avenue.

“We will be bringing back our famous, award-winning cupcakes from the Kupcake Factory, which have been featured on local television and news articles,” she said. “We’re very excited to bring something new and something from the past to Mid-City”

Elizabeth’z Bakery has been a vendor at the Abita Springs Art and Farmers Market for the past three years. In 2024, the bakery debuted its Dubai chocolate king cake, and last year, it sold more than 300 king cakes made with the trending confectionery, along with many traditional flavor king cakes.
