The Modern Austin Residences is about to get a little more elevated! Come this December, an upscale cocktail bar called The Modern will sit on the ground floor of the residential condo building located in the bustling Rainey Street District.
According to a recently filed liquor license, the new establishment will open doors at 610 Davis St., Ste. 100, and intends to serve as a “hospitality hotspot for entrepreneurs, urbanists and aficionados,” according to the Urbanspace Hospitality website.
“It’s a place to meet, congregate, and to do business, to exchange ideas,” Urbanspace Hospitality CEO Kevin Burns said in an interview with What Now Austin.
“Where innovation and creativity will come together to accomplish more, whether that’s exchanging ideas over coffee in the morning and at some magical hour that coffee turns into a cocktail.”
The Urbanspace Hospitality group is the team behind the building and its soon-to-come swanky new addition. According to its website, Burns founded Urbanspace in 2000 as a means to provide a locale to live, work, and play. After nailing the live and work part with the 2025 build of a 56-story building holding 319 residential condos and a business center, it appears that it was time to spice things up in the play department with the opening of a cocktail bar that promises a good time.
The Modern Austin Residences and its high-end bar is the third concept Urbanspace Hospitality Group has bought to Austin. The Independent and its bar, The Codependent, and Tómalo Grill have effectively served the communities they live in.
“When we set out to do The Codependent, the idea was Cheers meets a high-end modern Milanese hotel Lobby Bar,” Burns shared.
“The Modern Bar is going to be a more grown-up, evolved version of The Codependent. Serving the Rainey Street District like The Codependent serves the Seaholm District.”
Also, like The Codependent, The Modern Bar will offer small bites like breakfast sandwiches, breakfast tacos, and parfaits in the morning.
“Nothing complicated, just done well,” Burns said.
The lunch selection will include salads and wraps.
You can expect construction on the new Rainey Street bar and its accompanying residence, the Modern Austin Residences, to wrap up by the end of November and open doors in December.
“It’s going to be a very high-end environment, but open and welcoming to everybody. So, it should be a nice addition to Rainey Street,” Burns said.

{Editor’s note: The Urbanspace founding date has been updated from 2002 to 2000, and Melanie’s hotel lobby bar has been corrected to Milanese.}
