A local dessert truck known for its giant gourmet cookies is putting down roots.
Elite Dough Cookies, which currently cruises around Boston serving its signature over-the-top treats, is transforming the former Cookies by Design space at 54 Highland Ave in Needham Heights into its first brick-and-mortar bakery, owner Kai Moreto announced on Instagram.
“I can’t believe I’m saying this… but I FINALLY SIGNED THE LEASE TO MY OWN COOKIE SHOP,” he wrote. “No franchise. No investors. No safety net. Just me, a big ass dream, and the guts to chase it.”
Launched just last year, Elite Dough has quickly built a following with its decadent cookie-themed creations. Moreto, who operated Cookies by Design before deciding to strike out on his own, told What Now Boston that the bakery menu will spotlight the brand’s signature 6-ounce cookies, served warm and baked fresh daily, alongside a tempting lineup of cookie-forward treats including warm sundaes, milkshakes, hot chocolate croissants, cinnamon buns, and brownies.
Cookie flavors such as Chocolate Chip Truffle, Creamy Oreo, Cookie Butter Bliss, and White Chocolate Cranberry are currently available for nationwide shipping in boxes of 4, 6, 8, or 12.
The Highland Ave space is already undergoing renovations, and Moreto hopes to host a grand opening in January 2026, offering free cookies to his first 100 customers. The dessert truck will continue operating throughout the region after the storefront launches.
“I thought starting a food truck was tough, but remodeling and opening a bakery while still running the business is on a whole different level,” Moreto shared on Facebook. “This is by far the biggest investment I’ve ever made, and I’m giving it everything I’ve got. I seriously can’t wait for the grand opening, we’re starting this one off with a BANG!![]()
