In a cruel twist of fate, the Hurts Donut location in the Central District at 501 Loyola Ave. will close on Halloween, according to an Instagram post from the franchise’s owners. However, a permit filing indicates the store will rise from the dead as a corporate-owned store. According to a report from NOLA.com, the store is expected to reopen in the same location within a few weeks’ time.
Founder and CEO Tim Clegg recently told What Now New Orleans that the location recently got a deep clean and some minor repairs.
“We are excited to be back with only a few days lapsed, and stronger than ever!” he said over email. “We will be providing the NOLA community, and her visitors, with the entire Hurts Donut company menu, including all 77 varieties of our donuts, giant cookies, and many more ‘new’ options.”
Founded in Missouri and known for a modern take on its namesake fry cake, Hurts Donut has 18 locations across multiple states. The New Orleans franchise location opened in 2019, and it changed hands in 2021. In addition to all kinds of unique donut creations, the New Orleans location has featured a King Cake donut during Carnival season.
