Culver’s, the Wisconsin-based fast casual chain that offers Midwestern comfort food and hospitality, is opening a restaurant in Leesburg at 9423 U.S. Highway 441, in the Silver Lake Commons neighborhood.
The restaurant’s franchise/partner, Nathan Devine, filed permit applications with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. An opening date has not yet been announced.
Culver’s first opened in 1984 by George, Ruth, Craig, and Lea Culver in Sauk City, Wisconsin under the name “Culver’s Frozen Custard and ButterBurgers”. The menu was inspired by Craig’s favorite childhood foods: his mom’s homemade hamburgers and frozen custard.
Culver’s is still family-owned, with franchise partners invited to help grow the company. Today, there are more than 1,031 locations across the country, with more than 120 in the state of Florida.
Culver’s focuses on both Midwest food and values. It serves cheese curds and frozen custard made with Wisconsin dairy and ButterBurgers — burgers made from Midwestern beef and served on a buttered and toasted hamburger bun. The restaurant also offers a fish fry — a fried cod dinner that harkens back to the Wisconsin Friday fish fry tradition, where Catholic Milwaukeeans of German and Polish descent deferred from meat on Fridays.
The company also emphasizes community, with a welcoming “treat-everybody-like-a-neighbor” philosophy that treats everyone with kindness.
