Matcha Haus, the Toronto-based matcha café known for its vibrant green tea drinks and artisanal approach, is getting ready to open a second location in Leslieville at 890 Queen Street East.

The new outpost will share a property but not operations with Bar Bokeh, a modern, Asian-inspired cocktail lounge that will open soon in the back portion of the same address. While Matcha Haus will occupy the front of the space, Bar Bokeh will take over the rear as a separate business entirely. Matcha Haus hopes to open by November 17, though doors could open slightly earlier.

Once open, guests can expect the café’s signature lineup of handcrafted matcha lattes and wellness drinks featuring a mix of core staples and rotating seasonal offerings. Fall favourites like pumpkin spice are available for a limited time, while year-round staples such as their double pistachio latte and house-baked banana bread remain constants. The café’s Haus-made cold foams are vegan, and syrups are made in-house using high-quality ingredients.

Come late November, Matcha Haus will switch over to its winter menu, continuing its tradition of introducing new seasonal creations crafted with quality Japanese matcha. The company works directly with a dedicated supplier in Japan who tends the fields year-round to produce the café’s characteristically sweet, smooth, and vibrant matcha.

Behind the menu, Chef Haruna Makino, a Japanese vegan chef, brings her expertise to develop wholesome recipes that balance traditional technique with contemporary flavors.

As for the back half of the property, Bar Bokeh is poised to become a destination of its own. The cocktail lounge blends art, design, and mixology in a modern setting. True to its name, which comes from a photography term describing the aesthetic blur of light and focus, the bar will spotlight mood and atmosphere through soft lighting, intricate textures, and refined detail.

With Matcha Haus serving matcha by day and Bar Bokeh soon offering cocktails by night, 890 Queen Street East is shaping up to be Leslieville’s following must-visit cafe.
